I had a pup once who loved to chew on things. One time he got ahold of the extension cord that was running a box fan in the living room window. There was no sound, just suddenly a dog rising above the back of the couch with his (long gray) hair all standing on end. He came back down and hit the freshly varnished floor trying to run, but couldn't get any traction until his feet slowed down, the finally he took up the slack in the cord and jerked it off his tooth.
He never chewed anything again!

Well, at least he learned about power cords w/o losing his life for it. Maybe quite a few brain cells, but not his life. :P
